History of the Savannah Cat
daddy Judee Frank responsible for the first pairing of an African Serval to Domesticated cat.  This was achieved in the mid 80’s.  The F1 female that was achieved from this breeding was named Savannah and this is most appropriate and is the official name of this fascinating and exotic breed today.  The name Savannah originates from the grasslands of Africa from which the breeds Serval ancestors originated.   Patrick Kelly after purchasing some kittens from Judee Frank, later went on to work togehther with Joyce Sroufe to form the original breed standard and presented this to the TICA board of directors in February of 1996.   Joyce Sroufe, of BJ Game Farm – New Horizon Bengals which is now known as A1 Savannahs, then went on to become the most successful Savannah breeder and today is credited as being the founder of the Savannah breed.  Through Joyce’s persistence, diligence and faith in this breed along with her extensive

knowledge and skills in feline breeding she has produced more Savannahs than any other breeder to date and has been recorded to have been the first to breed down later generunningrations producing fertile males.  Joyce was also responsible for first introducing the Savannah breed to the public via exhibition at a major cat show in West Chester, New York in 1997.  Due to Joyce’s experience and her belief in and commitment to the Savannah breed has enabled her to be the mentor for new breeders interested in becoming involved with the future development of this breed.

Martin and Kathrin Sucki, todays owners of A1 Savannahs share the same dedication and devotion to the Savannah breed as Joyce.  Martin and Kathrin devote a great deal of time and love to this fascinating breed and must be commended at the highest level for their achievements with further advancement with the Savannah breed.  Martin and Kathrin Stucki of A1 Savannahs were responsible for the breeding and registration for some of the worlds first SBT Savannah litters. Martin and Kathrin Stucki of A1 Savannahs are today regarded as being at the forefront of the Savannah breeds success and the on going development with Savannah to Savannah breeding and their further progression with the SBT Savannah.
